This page will be kept updated with information relating to work on the Ludgate House and Sampson House site.
Ludgate House demolition
The demolition of Ludgate House, which sits on Blackfriars Road, is now complete. The work has been undertaken by specialist contractor McGee. (2018)
Sampson House demolition
We are in the process of preparing to commence with the demolition of Sampson House. Throughout Q4 2018 and Q1 2019, we will be making preparations that include establishing hoarding and scaffolding and soft stripping the inside of the building. Full demolition is expected to commence from Q1 2019.
Hopton Street Closure – February 2019
To allow for the erection of tower cranes to facilitate the demolition of Sampson House, a portion of Hopton Street will be closed for two weekends. A letter was sent out to neighbours informing them of the proposed dates and can be read here.
Since the letter has been sent, high winds have meant the originally proposed date of 9th / 10th February for the first tower erection will not take place. The date of this work is now proposed to be 16th / 17th February. The second tower crane is due to go up the weekend of the 23rd / 24th February. (February 2019)
The road closure will be from the south end of Hopton Street (which connects to Southwark Street) to the north end, stopping at the entrance to the spur road towards Blackfriars Station. A diversion down Great Guildford Street will be in effect at this time.
Community Liaison Group
We have set up a Community Liaison Group (CLG) for local residents to learn more about the demolition from McGee. The first meeting was held on 24th October.
The next CLG meeting will be held on 20th February 2019 at 6.30pm at the Better Bankside Community Space, 18 Great Guildford Street. Please email email@example.com to RSVP.
